Talk/Slideshow: Remembering Rudi Blesh

No other Gilmanton resident will ever be as hep as Rudi Blesh (1899-1985), a music critic whose forties-era radio show, This is Jazz, championed a musical genre then almost unknown to white America. A personal friend of Louis Armstrong and Baby Dodds, Blesh founded Circle Records, which preserved the music of jazz greats such as Jelly Roll Morton and also wrote a biography of silent movie star Buster Keaton. Blesh’s grandson, Carl Hultberg, a Danbury, New Hampshire poet, will share photos, music, and memories from the jazz legend’s life.
